Man was created out of divine love. The primary law for all creation is that of love. We came into this world veiled, ignorant of all knowledge of who we are and our origin. As Spiritual beings, we have full knowledge of the profoundness of love and its relationship to creation. Here in life, we come into a world, and from birth, we are unknowledgeable as to who we are and what we are about to experience as physical life.
From birth, emotions, fears, beliefs, and our sense of self and the world around us come from our parents. We learn from our environment, at home, at school, and through religion. Our experiences growing up determine how we relate to others. If you grew up in a loving home, your perception and understanding of love were shaped by what your parents displayed. This was how you learned to love. Unfortunately, in a dysfunctional home, your perception and understanding may have some negative aspects associated with what is loving.
LOVE IS LEARNED
Love is learned since birth. We experience love in a limited manner, as we believe that love lives dormant within each of us. However, what we have learned is insufficient. Our lack of knowledge results in confusion and loneliness. Many fear being hurt in a relationship, while others experience frustration because they do not know how to begin. Most of us spend our lives searching for love, often look in the wrong places, and die before even discovering it. What most of us have learned has come upon us indirectly, by accident or trial and error.
MISCONCEPTION
Misconceptions exist that alter our perception of what love is. Some believe that love just happens, love at first sight, no work needed, you simply fall in love. Yet we form relationships with others out of love who know little of what love is. Often, it is identified with romance, need, sex, and many other things.
If we truly know how to love, then why is there so much loneliness and feelings of unfulfillment? Why do we seem to be looking for something more? Why is the divorce rate so high, and why are there so many suffering as a result?
LEARNING TO LOVE
As an aspect of an extension of God, ALL THAT IS, in spirit, we are pure love, pure potential. And it is the failure to remember who we are that makes us feel limited and unable to love. We are limitless in our potential to love, and it is waiting to be developed and to grow. It is never too late to learn what you have as potential. Do you desire to learn to love? Then you must begin to discover what it involves. Have you ever thought about what qualities make up a loving person?
If one desires to know love, one must be love in action. Love means to give oneself completely without any guarantee. You give completely, hoping that another will love you in return. Love is about trust and faith. Ideally, perfect love asks for nothing and expects nothing. When you do not ask for anything or expect anything, you cannot be hurt or disappointed. When demands are made in love, you bring misery upon yourself.
People can only give from what they are capable of from within, and not what you wish that they give. One is loving because it is their will. It provides comfort and a knowing that growth and self-discovery rely upon it. You are learning to love when you place no conditions on it
Jesus’s life is the perfect example of love. He loved everyone unconditionally. Neither race, social status, nor gender was an issue. Jesus knew that we are all aspects of ALL THAT IS. That we are all brothers and sisters. Everyone was loved simply for who they are. His inclusion of women as apostles and students frustrated the men. As in the culture of the time, women were valued slightly above animals. But, Jesus, knew otherwise.
Today, we display disdain when it comes to others’ ethnicity, culture, or sexual preference. This is not learning to love. Kindness, compassion, understanding, and lending a helping hand to all is the formula for love. Develop a process for loving, and you will be loved. Put it into action and demonstrate it in your life and interactions with others. Remember, the greatest Spiritual Law is the Law of Love, and what you put out into life returns likewise to you
